This species of aeolid nudibranch is about four inches long. It feeds on hydroids containing zooanthellae, and stores them in its cerata, where they live and multiply. The zooanthellae supply the nudibranch with nutrients. The numerous cerata are shaped to supply maximum surface area for the zooanthellae to thrive. This aeolid is usually found in shallow water where the sunlight needed for photosynthesis is most intense.

Identification:
Pteraeolidia ianthina
